Hi, and thanks for spending a few minutes with the Barnes
Family.
We are Terry, Gwen, Jimmy, Sandra and Daniel. We spend a
lot of our time listening to southern
gospel music and go to concerts when there is one within
reasonable driving distance. We live
in Armada, Michigan in an 1890 colonial
house in the village. Armada is about 35 miles north of
Detroit and is home to the best county
fair in Michigan. Armada is also well known for its
orchards which produce some of Michigan's
best apples and peaches.
We are members of Calvary Baptist Church in Armada. See
below for more on Calvary Baptist Church.
All of us have asked Jesus to forgive our sins and we have
accepted His free gift of salvation.
We believe that the Bible is the inerrant Word of God and as
such shows the only way that men can be saved
from eternal separation from God and Heaven. If you are not
sure where you will spend eternity,
PLEASE CLICK HERE
to see from the Bible how you can know where you will
spend eternity. It does not matter how good or bad a person
you are, or what church you belong to. etc.
God has already provided the way for us to be saved - and
best of all it is free and simple enough
that everyone can understand His plan.
My wife Gwen and I met when I was visiting Gwen's brothers
at her house. She started coming to my church
and we eventually dated and fell in love. We were married
on July 8, 1978 at Gideon Baptist Church in Warren,
Michigan. We have three wonderful children, each special in
their own way. Look at there pages - just click
there names on the menu at the left. Jimmy will be 19 on
October 31 and has a very rare condition called
microencephaly. Be sure to read his page - you will be
blessed. Sandra is 16 and goes to Armada High School.
She is an honor student and does very well in math, but her
real talent is in Art. She got to go Adrian
College this summer on a full scholarship in art. Daniel is
9 and goes to Calvary Baptist Church School. He just
finished writing his first web page! Click his name to see
it! He tells about his hobbies and favorite
southern gospel groups.
Gwen is a very good artist, too. Gwen likes to work with
pen and ink and pastels. She likes to play our rather large
collection of southern gospel tapes while she does housework
and everything else around the house. Her personal favorite
southern gospel artist is Karen Peck & New
River. Gwen's father passed away a couple of years ago and
Karen Peck's song "Daddy's Home" has really
touched her.
I am Terry - that's me. I am 41 and am deeply involved in
southern gospel music. I spend a lot of my time keeping up
with
news about southern gospel groups and the industry in
general. We have an online store offering exclusively
southern gospel music CD's, cassettes. videos, songbooks,
sheet music, accompaniment tracks, Bibles and
Bible study aids, stereo equipment and supplies, lot's of
information including charts, new releases, etc.
The store is called
Southern Gospel Music Central
and because of our wonderful distributor, we are able
to offer significant savings on all of our products. I also
sing quite a bit at
church and am in the CMI concert choir and a member of the
ensemble. We perform traditional and sacred
Christmas songs and second half of our performances gives
the story of Jesus' birth. We have members from
many states that come all year long to our rehearsals and
our director, Thurlow Spurr, lives in Florida. We
have been invited by the Israeli government to return to
Jerusalem again to perform our musical "David" at
the citadel of David. My real dream is to sing in a
southern gospel group, and Lord willing, someday I will.
I work at Henry Ford Health System in network services as a
wide-area networking and router specialist. We
support around 85 sites in the metro-Detroit area including
6 hospitals.

Favorite Southern Gospel Groups
|
|
|
Our favorite Southern Gospel groups are Gold City,
Kingsmen, Karen Peck & New River,
Cathedrals, Weatherfords, the Singing Cookes, Jeff & Sheri
Easter, Squire Parsons, Greater Vision, Robert Winecoff and the early
Statesmen,
Blackwoods, Chuck Wagon Gang, Doug Oldham and the Speers.
We also enjoy the Gaither Videos. I am sure there are some
I have
forgotten to name.
Why Southern Gospel? You had to ask that question - didn't
you. You can really get me going on this one!
To put it simply, christian music should be like christians
themselves. Separate from the world and a "peculiar"
people. Peculiar? Absolutely! If I listen to a "christian"
song and don't hear the message of Jesus Christ, something
is wrong!
If I listen to a "christian" song and can't tell by the
music that it is christian, something is wrong. Why
should christians lower their standards to those of the
world and actually try to imitate the secular music sounds?
What an oxymoron "christian rock" is! The very industry
leaders of the rock and roll industry refer to the music as
the "music of the devil". So should "christian rock" be
called "christian music of the devil"? Southern gospel music
has endeavored to stay true to it's roots by only using
songs that tell the gospel, uplift the spirit, and give
praise, glory and honor to the only name worthy of such,
our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Concerning contemporary christian music - there are a few
artists in this genre that stay pretty true to good
christian music principles, but the vast majority of them
do not. Many of them actually show signs of satanic
influence in their music and concerts. Find this hard to
believe? There is an excellent source of information on
this
at
Dial the Truth Ministries
. They have researched many of the leading artists in
contemporary music
and have many graphics and sound clips to illustrate their
point. They also have a very well written page devoted to
determining what is and what is not
acceptable music for christians.
